On 14 March, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of Human Rights Defenders launched a report celebrating defenders' achievements. The report uses and pushes for a more effective and positive narrative on those who defend human rights.
Together with ISHR, Hossam Bahgat of the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights delivered a joint statement on the situation of defenders in Egypt, which was supported by over a dozen organisations from around the world.

This is not currently possible in Nicaragua. Since April 2018, the government has criminalised, arbitrarily detained, tortured, disappeared, and even killed, those who promote human rights and who question the government’s actions, including indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples defending their ancestral territory.

The Independent Expert on the Enjoyment of Human Rights by Persons with Albinism presented the Human Rights Council with a report noting continued barriers for defenders working on albinism and calling for greater cooperation between civil society groups.
Independent UN experts warned the Human Rights Council that violations amounting to crimes against humanity have been carried out in Nicaragua. The Colectivo 46/2 coalition calls for the two-years renewal of a Council resolution on Nicaragua.
