UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY SHOULD SUSPEND RUSSIA'S MEMBERSHIP FROM THE HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL

In an open letter, 50 NGOs from around the world called on the UN General Assembly to suspend Russia's rights of membership of the Human Rights Council for committing widespread, gross and systematic human rights violations, some amounting to war crimes and crimes against humanity.

As UN experts and governments reiterated concerns over widespread violations across China, Michelle Bachelet announced an agreement in principle to visit the country. However, she failed to release a long-awaited report on violations, some amounting to crimes against humanity, in Xinjiang, the Uyghur region.

HRC49 | STATES MUST ESTABLISH A MECHANISM TO PROMOTE ACCOUNTABILITY IN NICARAGUA

As the country’s human rights crisis worsens, States at the Human Rights Council must seize the opportunity to create a UN-mandated mechanism to investigate serious violations, identify perpetrators, and preserve the evidence.

HRC49 | SUDAN MUST END GRAVE VIOLATIONS AGAINST WOMEN PROTESTORS AND WHRDs

ISHR delivered a joint statement with the MENA Women Human Rights Defenders Coalition, Sudan Women Rights Action and the Nora Center for Combating Sexual Violence, highlighting the grave human rights violations against women and women human rights defenders in Sudan.
