UN HUMAN RIGHTS CHIEF MISSES HISTORIC OPPORTUNITY IN FAILED VISIT TO CHINA
 Just as the leaked 'Xinjiang Police Files' provided new evidence of Beijing's repression against Uyghurs, Michelle Bachelet's visit to China (23 – 28 May) was regrettably marked by the absence of strong public diplomacy and saw no concrete steps towards a regular monitoring of the country’s human rights situation. Women and girls in Afghanistan are facing the world's worst women's rights crisis: they are being deprived of the fundamental rights to non-discrimination, education, work, public participation and health. This demands an urgent and proportionate response from the UN Human Rights Council.
