Human rights defender's story: Brenda Kugonza from Uganda

'International advocacy is a tool to advance our human rights work, but it is also a tool that will support us in consolidating our protection as women human rights defenders.'

Brenda Kugonza is the Executive Director of Women Human Rights Defenders Network, Uganda. She has spent much of her life fighting against the injustices affecting girls and women in her country.

Brenda is also an alumni of ISHR’s flagship Human Rights Defender Advocacy Programme (HRDAP), which she joined for its 2019 session. She says the training helped her hone her skills for work that involves engaging with international partners, such as the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women.
