For over four decades, ISHR has stood with those who champion justice and equality. Their work and the international system that safeguards it have never been more important nor more imperiled than today. Join us to fight back with human rights defenders. Contribute to protecting the international system that protects us all.

The human rights multilateral system is cracking under pressure.

The institutions meant to secure peace, seek justice and protect rights are under unprecedented attack from populist governments and unscrupulous corporations that put power and profits over people and planet.

Yet, despite this turmoil, people everywhere are standing up, speaking out, and organising for freedom and dignity.

People’s demands for justice have never been louder.

For many of them and their communities, the international human rights system continues to offer hope. At its best, it provides protection and solidarity. But this system only works when it connects with the people it was built for.

This is where ISHR comes in. We are the bridge between human rights defenders on the frontlines and the international system that can translate their struggles into lasting change.

We train, support, and connect activists so they can bring their community-driven solutions to global tables, ensuring that international decisions reflect real people’s realities.

Defenders are the heartbeat of global justice.

Their voices can rebuild trust in cooperation, resist repression, and inspire people and governments around the world to act with courage and conscience. But they need protection, resources, and access to the international human rights system. We need to bridge the gap between them and this remote system.

With your support, we can keep that bridge strong.

Together, we can ensure that the international human rights system remains what it was meant to be: the world’s defense against tyranny.

  • Fight back with human rights defenders.
  • Help us resist increasing authoritarianism.
  • Protect the system that protects us all.

Help us build on our successes and achieve more.

Meet defenders, read their stories of success engaging with the international system we need to protect and how ISHR supports them.

Read Basma's story

Basma is a journalist and woman human rights defender forced into exile after reporting on enforced disappearances, torture and extrajudicial killings in Egypt.

ISHR supported Basma’s pursuit of justice for the threats that have followed her from home to exile. ISHR’s expertise, extensive networks and advocacy support in Geneva meant that Basma obtained a level of protection through the UN human rights system and that some of the perpetrators have been held accountable.

  • A gift of USD 2,000 could fund an advocacy trip, enabling a human rights defender, like Juana, to come to Geneva to use the international human rights system to deliver justice at home.
  • A gift of USD 500 could support us to produce a video profiling a human rights defender, providing them with protective publicity, exposing pressing issues that need international attention and action.
