Over the past few months, we have – like many of you – been working to learn how to adapt our work to this new environment. Without travel, conferences and in-person meetings, frank conversations become harder. The political climate is also changing, from day to day becoming more polarised. However, we remain convinced that communicating about how international human rights standards can have an impact on the situation in China, and on the work of Chinese civil society and human rights defenders, remains deeply important.
This is why we’ve put together a new selection of articles, highlighting both the latest updates of how the UN and its member states are talking about the situation in China, with how major challenges such as COVID and structural racism are inspiring new movements in the US and around the world.
This bilingual publication gathers China-related content from ISHR’s Human Rights Monitors while closely monitoring the Chinese government within the UN human rights spaces, and providing opportunities to civil society for UN engagement around issues of human rights in China.
