Human rights defender's story: Anexa Alfred from Nicaragua

Anexa Alfred Cunningham is a human rights defender and an advocate for the rights of Indigenous and Afro-descendent communities in Nicaragua. In response to her engagement with UN bodies, the government of Nicaragua has sent her into forced exile.

Anexa calls on the UN and the international community to keep the plight of Indigenous, Afro-descendant and all communities in Nicaragua in their agendas. She also remains hopeful that she can leave her children and grandchildren a country with democracy and justice.
