ISHR joined a global coalition of civil society organisations and individuals to call on the Egyptian authorities to immediately drop all charges, close all cases involving them, and promptly release Mohamed el-Baqer and Alaa Abdel Fattah, Mohamed Oxygen and all others arbitrarily detained.
Ahead of COP27, ISHR joined the open petition led by 12 Egyptian human rights organisations, calling on the Egyptian authorities to open civic space and release all those arbitrarily detained in Egypt.
ISHR joins organisations and individuals in calling on Egypt to immediately and unconditionally release human rights defender Sherif Al Rouby and the tens of thousands of others wrongfully detained.
Human rights defender Mohamed El-Baqer must be released immediately and unconditionally, stated 19 human rights organisations. His detention is arbitrary, aimed at punishing him for his legitimate human rights work and is only putting his life and psychological well-being at serious risk.
On 12 March 2021, 31 states at the UN Human Rights Council urged Egypt to end its persecution of activists, journalists and political opponents; called on Egypt to release them unconditionally; and urged the country to end the “the practice of adding detainees to new cases with similar charges after the legal limit for pre-trial detention has expired” (rotation). A year later, Egypt has failed to respond to these calls.
